While studying tactile sensation, I chose a combination of various mediums in order to gain a more flexible interpretation. In the installation Rounded In A Gourd, Elongated In A Pipe (Feb 2017) that illustrated the adaptability of a tree inside a building growing up till the ceiling, then its top is bending towards the glass-wall which the sunlight breaks through everyday, the shape of the tree deformed itself in order to fit into that living space. I composed this tree by ceramic logs and real wooden logs based on the fact that many blind people, in an effort of gaining general knowledge, have experienced a touch of a real tree or have sensed the wooden texture at least once in their lifetime. In this way, I expected the possibility of translating the physical tree-form into a mental image in the blind's mind through the sense of touching its real texture and the one created artificially by other medium.

Besides, color combination has been playing a significant role within my visual interpretation. In term that the blind do not recognize the psychological effect of colors similarly to sighted people, the intricate issue concerning color communication might occur. In particular, the blind might just retrieve how tasteful an orange is if we mention about the orange tone. Thus, in order to be able to translate this color to an energetic feeling, an additional heat source (i.e. a high pressure sodium bulb-HPS) should be considered since the outcome might evoke the power of the sun in blind people who often learn to recognize colors by colors’ physical effect.

When I feel my cheeks hot, I know that I am red. I have talked so much and read so much about colors that through no will of my own I attach meanings to them, just as all people attach certain meanings to abstract terms like hope, idealism, monotheism, intellect, which cannot be represented truly by visible objects, but which are understood from analogies between immaterial concepts and the ideas they awaken of external things. (The World I Live In & Optimism: A Collection of Essays, Hellen Keller (2009), p.45)

Therefore, I do not think the blind’s world is simply in greyscale tone while lacking of eye-sight for defining colors. In my current practice, I’m challenging with these physical differences, studying a synthesis of visual & tactile sensations through the properties of materials in order to be able to propose an extensively artistic interaction to even the visual-impaired people.
